Social Environment

Social Environment refers to the community, social, and cultural aspects of the Vineyard. (This work group combines the Cultural and History topic and the Health and Education topic initially identified in 2006 as distinct areas of interest when developing the Island Plan.)

The documents listed on the left include background information about culture and history on the Vineyard. Links to background materials are located to the lower left of this page and include summaries of facts, and initial goals and targets discussed at a June 2006 Island Plan forum.

A kickoff meeting of the Social Environment Work Group was held on January 23, 2008 to begin the discussion for how the Island Plan can best contribute to the efforts of the many organizations involved in these topics, identify where issues are not being addressed and develop recommendations for ways the community might address those issues.

We are currently holding a series of brainstorming sessions on specific sub-topics to prepare a report to forward the the Island Plan's Steering Committee, namely:

  • Arts & Culture
  • Education
  • Health & Human Services
  • Recreation
